Politics Otegi now recognizes the "pain" of the victims but without condemning ETA

ETA Newspaper Library announces the definitive cessation of its 'armed activity'
The PSOE and the PP celebrate the tenth anniversary of the end of ETA accusing themselves once again of "laundering terrorism" and "using the pain of the victims", both moved by political interests.
Both signatories of the pact for freedoms and against terrorism, both formations do not hesitate to confront each other, unable to show any harmony.
The latest episode of disagreement has occurred on account of the
popular
proposal to
create a special prosecutor's office to investigate acts of glorification of terrorism, the violation of the rights of the victims and the incitement to their contempt or humiliation.
A proposal registered eight months ago in the Senate and that this Monday has been debated in the Justice Commission of the Upper House.
The PP, through the mouth of Senator
Rafael Hernando
, maintains that 10 years after ETA announced the end of the violence "not everything is over", because "the political and social fabric" that supported the band "still survives and honors his murderers. "
"There are people in the Basque Country", he affirmed, "who are articulating a rebirth of the feeling that gave rise to ETA".
"Now," he insisted, "we are once again seeing acts of political violence with organized networks similar to those that 40 years ago were the seed of ETA."
A justified prosecution
For the PP, the acts of contrition of Arnaldo Otegi, former leader of the gang, "are partial" and have to do with the current situation in Bildu and his relations with the Government of Pedro Sánchez, but they avoid the outright condemnation of the murders and They have no desire to collaborate to clarify the more than 300 crimes whose authorship has not been clarified.
The
popular ones
emphasize that the "exaltation of the gunmen directly undermines the memory of the victims, democracy and suffering."
For the PP, the tributes to ETA prisoners are "acts of violence" that justify the creation of a special prosecutor's office dedicated to persecuting them and also ensuring that memory "is not dwarfed by criteria of political opportunism."
The proposal has been rejected by the PSOE and its parliamentary allies. The socialists have argued that, with it, the PP tries to "use terrorism as a weapon of political confrontation" and "the pain of the victims for the benefit of a disgusting strategy."
The PSOE assures that the acts of tribute to the ETA prisoners are "miserable", but considers that to face them it is enough that the Security Forces and the justice do their job and the Basque and Navarrese society itself turns its back on them.
An argument that the
popular
refute referring to the fifth point of the Antiterrorist Pact itself, according to which "if new criminal forms or attitudes and behaviors that objectively constitute collaboration or incitement to terrorism require legal reforms," the signatory parties "undertake to promote them mutually agreement".
