The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has made a statement that the pharmaceutical company Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine does not meet all criteria for booster shots.

According to Reuters, the FDA heard in a document released on the 12th local time that a booster shot of the moderna vaccine is not necessary, so just two doses of the vaccine will keep the preventive effect.

The FDA pointed out that booster shots may increase antibodies, but the difference in antibody levels before and after vaccination is not large enough, especially in those who have many antibodies.

A booster shot is an inoculation administered in addition to the approved standard number of doses in consideration of the gradual decrease in vaccine effectiveness.

This document was released while the FDA's external advisory body, the Vaccine and Biologics Advisory Committee, decided to discuss the need for a booster shot for Moderna and Janssen vaccines on the 14th and 15th.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is scheduled to hold a meeting next week to decide who should be vaccinated if the FDA approves a booster shot for the Moderna vaccine.
