“The EC decided today to file a claim with the EU Court against Poland due to a violation of EU law, which guarantees the independence of the national telecommunications regulator,” the European Commission said in a press release.

According to her, the Polish government first changed the relevant law, and in May 2020, ahead of schedule, dismissed the head of the Office of Electronic Communications (UKE), who was supposed to be in office until September 2021.

The European Commission notes that this violates the rules established in the EU.

The EC recalled that the independence of the media regulator is the main principle in the EU rules in the field of telecommunications.

Earlier, the European Commissioner spoke about calls to the EU to reconsider relations with the United States.
