Today, Thursday, the US special envoy to Haiti resigned, two months after his appointment to the post;

In protest against the administration of President Joe Biden expelling Haitian immigrants from the US-Mexico border and deporting them to their country.

"I will not be associated with the inhuman and useless decision to expel thousands of Haitian refugees and illegal immigrants to Haiti," said Daniel Foot, the special envoy of the US State Department, in his resignation letter, describing the American handling of this issue as shameful.

In the letter to US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, Foote wrote that Haiti, "mired in poverty and hostage to terror, simply cannot afford the return of thousands of migrants who lack food, shelter and money without causing additional, avoidable human tragedy."

The resignation came after the administration of President Joe Biden began - at the end of last week - to load Haitian immigrants - who crossed into the country from Mexico - on planes and return them to Haiti.

The administration of President Joe Biden is under severe criticism after revealing images of the "inhumane" treatment of refugees from Haiti on the southern border by US security forces.

The resigned envoy, Daniel Foot, said that his country's behavior with this issue is deeply flawed, noting that his recommendations in that regard were rejected and ignored.

Many of the thousands who crossed the border traveled from South America, and some said they fled years of extreme poverty in Haiti.
