Tensions between Barcelona and Madrid are officially eased.

On Wednesday, the president of the Spanish government, Pedro Sánchez, traveled to the Catalan capital to meet with Pere Aragonès, regional president, to try to resolve the political conflict.

But if we are to believe Sanchez, the road will be long.

“

The problems with Catalonia did not start yesterday and will not be resolved tomorrow, and that is precisely why we have decided together to work without haste, without pause and without delay.

 "

This first meeting of the “negotiating table” lasted nearly two hours during which Aragonès reiterated its desire to negotiate a self-determination referendum.

A proposal refused by Madrid, but the Catalan does not lose hope.

“

We start the path full of difficulties, with very distant positions, but we start to talk, we start to negotiate and we do it with all our strength.

 "

The next meeting between the two governments is expected to take place before Christmas.

It remains to be seen which of the two executives will begin to make concessions so that these negotiations really advance.
