The success of the operation to restore sight to a female citizen of people of determination

Doctors from Moorfields Eye Hospital in Abu Dhabi, affiliated with the United Eastern Medical Services Group, and the Mubadala Health Care Network, succeeded in restoring sight to a citizen patient of determination, in her left eye and the only one through which she sees, as the right eye was removed in her childhood of glaucoma and its complications.

The patient, who is 40 years old, suffered from Down syndrome, and had been suffering from vision problems since childhood, and moderate to severe learning difficulties, and she underwent several surgeries to treat “glaucoma” in both eyes, more than 15 years ago in a health center, Unfortunately, she suffered many complications, and completely lost vision in the left eye, as it was small in size, and caused severe pain as a result of several previous operations, so the left eye was removed at that time.

The consultant ophthalmologist, who performed the operation and treated the patient, Dr. Syed Ali, explained that the patient needed cataract surgery, as, as a result of severe adhesions in the lens, cataract disease, and the delay in dealing with the case and treatment, she lost her sight in her only right eye. , Which required a complex operation to save the right eye, so that we, as doctors, could inspect the nerves of the eye from the inside, and she actually had the operation in the hospital two months ago.

He said, "During the one-hour operation, using the latest technologies and devices, an artificial lens was implanted, and her eyesight in the right eye completely improved," noting that the operation was complicated, due to the adhesion of the pupil and the lens, as a reaction to a previous glaucoma operation, which took place more than a year ago. 15 years, during which the pupil was separated from the lens, and then the lens was removed, and a new lens was implanted, to restore her sight.
