Kuloglu noted that the withdrawal of US troops and allies from Afghanistan could cause a new influx of refugees to Europe, "which will place a heavy burden on the host countries."

"Since 2001, the European Union as a whole and individual member states have actively supported the United States and the successive governments of Afghanistan and therefore bear political and moral responsibility for current events," the MEP recalled at the same time.

In this regard, Kuloglu turned to Borrel with several questions (the corresponding request was sent before the terrorist attacks that took place in Kabul, which killed over 150 people, including 13 American soldiers).

In particular, the deputy asked what measures the European Commission (EC) will take to guarantee the safe arrival of refugees and their "proportional and fair distribution" between the EU member states.

In addition, he asked how the EC would react to a possible refusal by any EU country to accept the applications of Afghan refugees for asylum.

Earlier, the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said that not only the states of the European Union should deal with the issue of migrants, but also all those who participated in the US and NATO operations in Afghanistan.

For his part, Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Jansa, whose country is currently presiding over the EU Council, warned that the association will not open humanitarian and migration corridors for Afghan refugees, so as not to get a new crisis.
