Today, 282,134 male and female students in government schools begin their school shift, out of about 1.2 million students in public and private schools, with the start of the 2021-2022 school year amid intensive preparations made by the Emirates School for School Education to receive students in their schools, and to implement an operating protocol Educational facilities approved by the concerned authorities in their schools, in order to preserve the safety of students and administrative, teaching and technical cadres.

The institution adopts gradualism by returning students to their schools and providing the option of distance learning to the guardian, or the delay of some students in joining the attendance shift due to the completion of its requirements as a result of the negative examination result of the nasal swab.

The Minister of Education, Hussain Al Hammadi, praised the preparations and the large amount of work that took place in the last period in order to create an ideal environment to receive students for the new academic year.

He said, "Education at the global level is at stake, while the UAE is anticipating the future and employing the capabilities to sustain education, and this is the result of the vision, care and support of the leadership, and the harmonious work of our teaching and administrative cadres, students and parents."

He pointed out that steps have been taken to ensure study in higher education institutions, so that education is present in all disciplines that require laboratories or research, as well as students of the graduation year.

Al Hammadi stated that school activities, healthy nutrition, transportation services in educational facilities, public health, control, support services, travel, curricula, awareness and training, health, environment and safety system, safety procedures, vaccination, extracurricular activities, continuous monitoring and follow-up, and the role of the guardian. And other matters that affect the school community, have been subjected to disciplined updates in line with the new reality, in order to achieve the highest levels of effectiveness, to ensure the smooth flow of the school day without hindrances, according to the approved and developed protocol.

In addition, the Emirates Foundation for School Education worked with its field teams and in cooperation with the concerned authorities to develop guidelines for managing the school day for various educational levels, including kindergartens, starting with students getting on buses and entering school, and their movement within its corridors.

The Foundation has set four axes for school work for all educational levels in the Emirati school, which will be applied in the new academic year. Working and defining the roles and responsibilities of all school staff, opening effective channels of communication with parents and students, evaluating the safe return of students and submitting reports, investing all school facilities and resources to support the learning and teaching process, and setting controls for the implementation of school activities.

In the health and safety axis under the supervision of the competent department, school administrations take into account precautionary measures while students are at school in all school activities, apply school building readiness procedures within the health and safety protocol, and ensure that students of critical illness cases adhere to the direct distance learning schedule on a daily basis.

In the teaching and learning axis under the Education Development Department, school administrations must organize classroom planning tasks and activities among subject teachers, provide a time space for the teacher to follow up on tasks directed to support self-learning, receive students of determination daily, provide a special education class teacher or assistant, and evaluate the quality of teaching and learning. Continuously improving and evaluating students’ abilities and implementing the educational loss realization plan in line with students’ needs, providing educational resources and activities from smart platforms to enhance building basic skills, following up on the activities of all students through platforms and technical resources, and planning distance learning sessions for students who did not choose real learning.

In the awareness and empowerment axis supervised by the Training Department, all school teams will be prepared to take on the new roles and responsibilities to implement realistic and hybrid education in line with standards and expectations, and to educate students and parents about the precautionary measures taken.

The guide also identified four school teams that will be formed in each public school to ensure the quality of the implementation of the return protocol and procedures;

These are the Continuity of Learning team, the Environment, Health and Safety team, the Academic team, and the Quality of Life team.

The main activities of the Education Continuity Team are divided into forming school committees, communicating with parents, submitting daily reports, setting and supervising the safe school operations plan and the operational plan, identifying and classifying material and human needs, and correcting and responding to school inspection reports’ observations.

Meanwhile, the health and safety team is working to participate in developing a plan for safe school operations and following up on its implementation, supervising the daily movement of students, following up the safety of the school building, cleaning and sterilization, following up on health conditions in the school such as vaccination and injury, applying the injury tracking system, and providing prevention supplies. As for the academic team, one of its most prominent tasks is to develop the operational plan, follow up on the implementation of the academic axis, prepare the weekly school schedule, follow up on teachers’ performance and empower them, identify and classify students’ academic, social and psychological needs, follow up on the implementation of the academic plan to enable students to acquire international test skills, and develop an educational plan for injured students.

The Quality of Life team works on preparing and following up the implementation of the plan for enrichment activities, scientific clubs, school trips, the communication plan with parents, following up on the implementation of the provisions of the quality of life axis in the operational plan, and following up on the participation of students and teachers in student competitions and local and international educational awards.

As well as preparing and implementing social and psychological treatment plans for students, allocating a file for each of them, following up on absenteeism and behavioral problems, communicating with teachers and parents, designing educational brochures on health and safety, following up on the health status of injured students and staff and providing them with support.
