The head of the Russian Ministry of Health, Mikhail Murashko, said that experts allowed the use of the Sputnik Light vaccine for vaccination and revaccination against coronavirus infection of persons over 60 years old.

"Experts gave permission to use the Sputnik Light vaccine in people over 60 years old, for re-vaccination it is mainly used by those who have already received vaccination," TASS quotes him.

Murashko clarified that this vaccine can be recommended by the medical community for those who have already been ill with COVID-19 in order to "support and save life."

The head of the department pointed out the need for vaccination, noting that he had recently been in the "red zone" and had seen many patients over 60 years old there.

“Vaccination is very important, especially among people over 60 years old ... We see that in the structure, including deaths, 85% are people over 60 years old,” he said.

Murashko also noted that in all regions of Russia there is an adequate supply of vaccines against coronavirus.

“There are enough vaccines <...> in fact, not a single region in the country has a supply for less than a week.

Therefore, we invite you, be sure to get vaccinated, save your life, ”he said.

Recall that mass vaccination against coronavirus began in Russia on January 18.

Citizens of the country can be vaccinated with one of the four registered vaccines in the country: "Sputnik V" and "Sputnik Light" Center.

Gamalei, "EpiVacCorona" developed by the Novosibirsk center "Vector" and "KoviVak" by the Chumakov Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

According to Murashko, more than 43 million people have already received the coronavirus vaccine in Russia.

“Today, more than 43 million people have been vaccinated in the country as a whole, but this figure, we believe, is not enough yet.

We have regions that have already vaccinated more than 60% of the adult population.

These are leaders such as the Chechen Republic, ”he said.

The Belgorod and Moscow regions, the minister noted, are approaching this mark.

At the same time, he noticed that due to the fact that COVID-19 has become more aggressive, children today have become more infected.

Murashko also called on the regions where the incidence of infection has declined to send mobile medical complexes to remote rural areas for vaccination and medical examination of citizens from risk groups.

The day before, the director of the Gamaleya Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, Alexander Gintsburg, said that the necessary level of collective immunity to COVID-19 in Russia could be formed by the end of 2021.

According to him, the formation of herd immunity is currently "going well", and there is an abundance of vaccine in the regions of the country.

“The whole problem is that people are more active and get vaccinated,” explained Gunzburg.

At the same time, Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova, speaking about the vaccination of pregnant women, stressed that vaccination remains the only way to protect the expectant mother and her child from COVID-19.

“We were very careful about the possibility of vaccinating pregnant women.

We did not do this immediately, after the vaccine was registered and it passed clinical trials, we watched the process for a long time.

And now we are absolutely sure that when comparing the results, if a person got sick and did not get vaccinated or got vaccinated and got sick, these are two completely different things.

Vaccination is life-saving for pregnant women: both yourself and your child, avoiding negative consequences, ”she said.

Golikova reiterated that vaccination against coronavirus is the best way to save human life, and recalled that a vaccinated person tolerates the disease more easily: in most cases, it is asymptomatic or in a mild form.
