23-year-old Ebba Scholtz remembers the first time she felt the vestibule.

Ten years ago, the burning pain came in the abdomen.

It took a few years before she was diagnosed, and since then she has tried different treatments.

- The pain takes over one.

I can not ride a bike, I have to avoid certain clothes and a sex life is virtually impossible to have.

You therefore become desperate, and are willing to try anything, she says.

So when she visited the youth clinic in Lund and was referred to a doctor who asked if she could consider trying cortisone injections in the abdomen, she did not hesitate.

In April last year, she received the first of three injections.

Experiencing that it got worse after the injections

- It hurt indescribably for a day.

It was awful.

I told him about it, but he said it would pass.

But it did not.

- Today my vestibulit is worse than before.

I do not know if it depends on the treatment, but it is definitely worse.

I feel offended that I have been the subject of a treatment that has not been proven, says Ebba Scholtz.

Wondering how it could take so long to discover

Today, Ebba gets help from a sexologist at the vulva clinic in Malmö, but she is disappointed that the cortisone treatment prevented her from receiving care at a specialist clinic.

- If this had been discovered earlier, I might have been able to prevent my vestibulit from getting worse.

I think it is strange that primary care did not notice what the doctor did, given that it is open in my medical record, says Ebba Scholtz.

Primary care investigates the incident while the doctor in question is taken off duty.

The investigation shows that some patients feel that the treatment helped, while others have felt severe pain after the injections.

- So far, most have wanted a new gynecological assessment, which the youth clinics will assist with, writes Jan Bleckert, chief physician for Primary Care in northwestern Skåne, in an email to SVT.

SVT Nyheter Skåne has sought the doctor, who used cortisone injections, but without success.
