They tried… and lost.

Two Americans who arrived in Toronto, Canada on the weekend of July 18 were heavily fined by the country's authorities because they did not meet the health obligations required to enter the territory.

Indeed, the two men had provided false vaccination certificates or false results of tests carried out before their trip, reports

CNN

, Monday.

Each traveler thus received four fines totaling 19,720 Canadian dollars, or approximately 13,300 euros.

“Providing false information or documents to a government official to enter Canada, making false statements or presenting fraudulent documents, such as vaccination certificates, is a serious offense and may result in fines or criminal proceedings, ”the authorities said in a statement.

Relaxed measures from August 9

According to the Canadian Public Health Agency, people providing false vaccination certificates can even be fined up to C $ 750,000 and imprisoned for up to six months. Canada had also relaxed its rules inherent to entry into its territory on July 5, before the violation of the two travelers.

Since that date, fully vaccinated people have in fact been authorized to re-enter Canada, without necessarily having to carry out quarantine and tests.

In general, from August 9, all travelers will have to provide a negative PCR test before their departure, but no longer necessarily on arrival.

But they will no longer have to carry out a mandatory three-night quarantine in a hotel.

Canada has also announced its intention to accept, from September 7, 2021, all travelers with a complete vaccination course, but with a product recognized by the country.
