Tunisian President suspends work in public institutions for two days

The President of the Republic of Tunisia, Kais Saied, issued a presidential order to suspend the work of the central administrations, foreign interests, local groups and public institutions of an administrative nature for a period of two days, starting from Tuesday, July 27, 2021, with the possibility of extending the period of suspension of work by a notification issued by the Presidency of the Republic.

This presidential order allows each minister concerned or the head of a local group to make a decision to assign a number of agents with in-person or remote quotas. It also obliges the administrative structures that provide administrative services online to ensure the continuity of those services while enabling the direct head of each administrative structure to license some services. Other administrative procedures or perform some of their procedures remotely, especially via electronic messaging.

Exceptions are made from this presidential order, agents of the internal security forces, military personnel, customs agents, agents working in public health structures and institutions, and agents working in institutions of education, childhood, training and higher education who are subject to special arrangements.

The Tunisian president had previously issued a presidential order deciding to dismiss Hicham Al-Mashishi, the head of government in charge of managing the affairs of the Ministry of the Interior, Ibrahim Al-Bertajy, the Minister of National Defense, and Hasna Ben Suleiman, the minister to the head of the government in charge of public service and the acting minister of justice.

The Tunisian presidency also issued a statement, in which it said that it was decided to freeze the work and competencies of the Parliament for a period of 30 days, to lift the parliamentary immunity of all members of the Assembly of the Representatives of the People, and to assume the executive authority with the help of a government headed by a prime minister and appointed by the President of the Republic.

The Presidency of the Republic called on the Tunisian people to pay attention and not to slip behind the advocates of chaos.
