In Greece, at the heart of the tourist season, the growing number of Covid cases detected daily in Mykonos - they have more than tripled in a week - has prompted the authorities to take new binding measures on this island in the Cyclades archipelago , among the most popular with foreign visitors.

At the same time, other very touristy islands in the country are also affected by an increase in the number of cases detected.

1am curfew and more music.

As of this weekend, cafes, bars and restaurants on the very touristic island of Mykonos are asked to mute while serving their customers.

A measure currently imposed for only ten days but which can be extended if the number of Covid-19 cases detected on the island does not drop significantly.

At the same time, on the same island of Mykonos, the organizers of parties welcoming more than twenty people are threatened with a fine ranging between 50 and 200,000 euros.

A blow to the tourist sector of the island with its festive reputation, which normally welcomes more than a million visitors each summer, in particular an upscale clientele.

The mayor of Mykonos thus evoked a “punitive” measure for his island, while at the same time, cancellations of rentals are increasing.

These new restrictions on Mykonos come as Greek authorities this week raised the level of risk on several tourist islands, which have changed from yellow to orange, on the official national map.

This is particularly the case for the islands of Santorini, Paros and Ios as well as, in Crete, the regions of Heraklion and Rethymno.
