A member of the US men's Olympic basketball team has been placed in Covid-19 protocol, the US Federation confirmed on Wednesday, without disclosing his name, but The Athletic site says it is Washington Wizards All-Star back Bradley Beal.

It was not clear whether the player had tested positive for the coronavirus or whether he had been placed in protocol due to potential exposure to the coronavirus.

The news comes 11 days before the Americans play their first game at the Tokyo Olympics on July 25 against France.

The team coached by Gregg Popovich are currently training in Las Vegas and played a friendly against Argentina on Tuesday.

Beal scored 17 points, tying Kevin Durant as the game's leading scorer, a 108-80 win for the United States.

The 28-year-old started all three USA warm-up friendlies in Las Vegas.

The reigning Olympic champions suffered two unexpected defeats to Nigeria (90-87) and Australia (91-83) before beating Argentina.
