Emmanuel Macron is due to visit the Renault site in Douai, in northern France, on Monday.

The President of the Republic will formalize the project to set up an electric battery factory to equip the cars of the diamond brand.

Sales of electric and hybrid cars are exploding in Europe.

In 2020, the Old Continent became the world's leading market for battery-powered cars, a trend which also seems to be confirmed for this year.

To meet this demand, battery factory projects are multiplying in Europe.

The NGO Transport & Environment has 38 for nearly 40 billion euros in investments.

These projects are widely supported by the public authorities.

The objective of the European Commission is to make Europe autonomous in this sector, because it is still very dependent on batteries from Asia.

Because it is urgent, most European car manufacturers have made commitments in recent months to cease production of combustion engines in Europe by 2030 or 2035. This means that many more factories will be needed. batteries to cope with the

By traveling to the Renault site, Emmanuel Macron wishes to "

 illustrate the attractiveness of France in the industrial sector, in promising segments, and its repercussions for the territories, in particular in terms of jobs

 ", underlined the Elysee. 

Indeed, built by the Sino-Japanese group Envision, the Douai plant will have a capacity of 9 gigawatt hours (GWh) per year and will allow the creation of a thousand jobs by 2024. The State should support the project to the tune of 60 million euros while the region will finance the operation to the tune of 35 million euros.

In the wake of this trip, the Head of State is due to go to the “Choose France” forum on Monday, under the patronage of the Elysee Palace and which will bring together in Versailles more than a hundred directors of foreign companies and about fifty directors of French companies.
