Iodine tablets are distributed to everyone who lives up to 15 kilometers from a nuclear power plant.

In the case of Ringhals, this includes approximately 22,000 inhabitants in the municipalities of Varberg and Kungsbacka as well as those who have holiday homes in the area, the County Administrative Board in Halland states.

The tablets can protect people from thyroid cancer after a nuclear accident, but must be renewed every five years.

Most people in the area around Ringhals should have received their new iodine tablets before midsummer.
