An international network of theft of GPS used in agriculture, having raged in about fifteen French departments, was dismantled, announced Saturday the prosecutor of the interregional jurisdiction of Rennes.

Two men of Romanian nationality, arrested in the Nantes region, were indicted by an investigating judge of the specialized interregional jurisdiction (JIRS) of Rennes “heads of criminal associations with a view to preparing one or several offenses punishable by 10 years of imprisonment and theft in an organized gang, ”according to the press release.

One was remanded in custody and the other under judicial supervision.

The prosecution "has also requested from the Romanian judicial authorities the surrender of the five suspects arrested in Romania".

A total of 82 stolen GPS

Opened last September, the judicial investigation brought up to date, in addition to the network, "the existence of a concealment channel destined for Eastern Europe, in particular Romania".

"In total, these are the thefts of 82 agricultural GPS having a value exceeding one million euros that could be attributed to these teams", according to the prosecution.

"To carry out the investigations, a national investigation unit bringing together the Central Office for the Fight against Itinerant Delinquency (OCLDI) and the departmental gendarmerie group of Vendée has been set up", specifies the prosecution.

"The investigations were carried out in cooperation with the Romanian judicial authorities and the criminal police units of Bucharest and Craiova and benefited from the support of Europol and Eurojust".
