Frankfurt / Main / Berlin (dpa / lhe) - The federal government is funding the construction of a new bridge for pedestrians and cyclists at Frankfurt Airport with around three million euros.

Completion is planned by the end of 2023, as the Federal Ministry of Transport announced on Friday.

It is expected that in the future up to 10,000 commuters will use the crossing by bike every day.

At the moment, cyclists still have to drive around a multi-lane road at the airport and stop at six traffic lights.

The new bridge will shorten the route for cyclists between the Gateway Gardens district and Terminal 2 by up to ten minutes.
