Flags at half mast, shutters lowered and a minute of silence in the public offices in memory of Luana D'Orazio.

Tuscany 'dresses' in mourning for the last farewell to the young 22-year-old worker crushed by a textile machine in a company in Montemurlo, in the Prato area, a week ago.

From 3 pm, the funeral in the church of Cristo Risorto Spedalino Asnelli in Agliana, in Pistoiese, where Luana lived with her family and her 5-year-old son. An 'armored' ceremony, not broadcast on television, as requested by the Diocese of Pistoia. To celebrate the funeral services, the bishop of Pistoia, Fausto Tardelli. The body will be buried in the town cemetery. The owner of the company where the accident occurred and the young woman's work colleagues also wanted to be present.

Confindustria Toscana Nord recommended that all associated companies in Lucca, Pistoia and Prato devote a minute of silence to correspond with Luana's funeral.

The Municipality of Pistoia also stopped to remember the disappearance of his fellow citizen: schools and businesses dedicated a moment to Luana to express closeness to the families affected by the 'white deaths'.

The former teacher: the bond remains forever

"I remember her, she was a little girl, tiny, slender. I had her as a student until 2008. We always know everything about the children who were with us, this is a small community. I also knew a lot about Luana, and when a child who was our pupil dies, even as an adult, it is an event that involves us. They spend a lot of time with us and we share many moments, they become like our children ". Thus Barbara Davini, teacher of the elementary schools of Luana. The school, 'Don Milani', is right in front of the church of the Risen Christ and the kindergarten next door is attended by Luana's son, 5 and a half years old. "Today - added the teacher - elementary school children were told that a former pupil, like they are now, died in an accident at work".The school children were made to observe a minute of silence, then they were made to leave early. The flags on the entrance have been lined up in mourning.

Three months ago in the Prato area it was the turn of Sabri Jaballah, 22, who died crushed by a machine in a textile company in Montale, while the investigations ordered by the Prato Prosecutor's Office continue to reconstruct the dynamics of the accident and any responsibilities. The result of the autopsy on Luana's body revealed that the worker died instantly from a crushing of the chest.

This morning, meanwhile, a technical survey was carried out on the textile machinery by an engineer appointed by the prosecutor to clarify whether Luana's death was caused by a malfunction of the safety system or by tampering. The points on which the investigators' attention is focused are the safety photocell which did not come into operation blocking the machine and the machinery protection gate which was found raised.

For this reason, the owner of the company, Luana Coppini, 58, and the maintenance worker Mario Cusimano, 57, are registered in the register of suspects for the crime of manslaughter and willful removal of precautions against accidents at work. Furthermore, during the week, the juvenile court of Florence will decide on the request for temporary custody of Luana's son made by his maternal grandparents, Francesco D'Orazio and Emma Marrazzo, with whom the child already lived.
