This is not the first time the girl has been discovered in Malmö.

The girl, who is a Czech citizen, came to Sweden from Austria when she was only a few months old.

When the girl was two years old, the social services investigated her case when she was in Sweden without a guardian.

This after the mother, who lives in Austria, left the girl with an acquaintance in Malmö.

In the summer of 2018, the girl was placed in an emergency home after reports that she was beaten by her mother's acquaintance.

In 2019, when the girl was five years old, the Swedish Migration Agency decided to deport the girl to the Czech Republic where she would be received by her mother.

Despite this, the eight-year-old is now back in Malmö and it is suspected that the mother sold the girl to the familiar woman whose apartment the girl was found in.

Complex matter

According to Sydsvenskan, the mother denies that the girl was sold.

She believes that she and the girl should have traveled to Malmö from Austria to visit acquaintances last winter.

The mother must then have had to seek care in the Czech Republic and therefore left the daughter, who for various reasons was never picked up again.

The girl has been forcibly taken care of by the social services in Malmö, which has now contacted the Austrian authorities to find a solution.

- For this type of case, the social services need to investigate and map the child's domicile. Contacts need to be made with the country in which guardians and children live or similar, writes Maria Andersson, unit manager at the social administration in Malmö, in an email to SVT Nyheter Skåne.
