Wolfsburg / Ingolstadt (dpa) - Adler Mannheim and ERC Ingolstadt have missed their first chances of making it into the playoff final of the German ice hockey championship.

Top favorite Mannheim conceded 1: 2 (0: 0, 1: 0, 0: 1) on Wednesday evening after extra time at the Grizzlys Wolfsburg to equalize the series to make it 1: 1.

Then the Ingolstadt team lost 2: 3 (1: 1, 1: 0, 0: 2 against the Eisbären Berlin. The Berliners avoided their season off. Ryan McKiernan scored 63 seconds before the end of the Berlin success.

In both semi-final series, there will be the decisive third game on Friday.

The best preliminary round team Mannheim has home rights against Wolfsburg as does Berlin against Ingolstadt.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the mode has been shortened, instead of the usual four wins, two successes per series are enough.
