Rodewald (dpa / lni) - The founders of the “Artenglück” company are looking for sponsors for flowering meadows in the Nienburg district, in the Heidekreis and the Hanover region.

The donors also receive - depending on the contribution - a flower mix for their own garden and organic honey.

"You can achieve great things with small resources," said Lara Boye (27) from Nienburg, who founded the company in autumn with Christoph Thieße (25) from Rodewald and Felix Schulze-Varnholt (24).

So far, the trio has been able to win flower sponsors for around 3.2 hectares - they leased the fields around Rodewald (Nienburg district) from other farmers, including Thieße's father.

"Farmers are very interested in the topic because they live from and with nature," says the spokeswoman for the Lower Saxony rural people, Sonja Markgraf.

The “Lower Saxony Way” gave species protection a boost.

The compromise agreed in the state parliament at the end of 2020, which guarantees farmers compensation payments for more environmental protection, is referred to as the “Lower Saxony Way”.

Before that, around 163,000 people had voted for the “Biodiversity. Now!”

signed.

Intensive agriculture and the use of pesticides are considered to be two main causes of insect death.

In southern Lower Saxony, the rural population of Göttingen has been looking for sponsors for flowering meadows since 2019.

Last year, with the help of the donations, 30 farmers in the region were able to create 50 additional flower strips; there are no figures for this year.
