Hamburg (dpa / lno) - It has belonged to Hamburg like the Michel or the Elbe since 1987: the Alster fountain.

It bubbles every year from April to November.

Now the new season begins: From Tuesday onwards, the fountain will again be the eye-catcher on the Inner Alster from 9 a.m. to midnight.

At 1:15 p.m. Environment Senator Jens Kerstan and Nathalie Leroy, Managing Director Hamburg Wasser and District Office Manager Falko Droßmann want to switch the fountain back on.

The pumps convey around 180 cubic meters of water per hour in order to shoot the water column, which is up to 60 meters high, into the sky.

New this year is a more effective motor for the pumps, so that they work more than 20 percent more energy-efficiently.
