Essen (dpa / lnw) - Because he is said to have administered a fatal drug to seriously ill Covid 19 patients, the public prosecutor's office has brought charges against a senior physician at the Essen University Hospital. She has now accused the 45-year-old of manslaughter in three cases, according to communications from the public prosecutor's office and the university hospital on Wednesday. In November, he is said to have administered life-ending drugs to patients from Essen, Gelsenkirchen and the Netherlands, which are said to have led to premature death, said the investigating public prosecutor. After his arrest, he told the police about one of the cases that he wanted to end the further suffering of the patient and his relatives. The university clinic said in its communication that the patients were in the "dying process".

After his arrest, two victims from his ward were initially known: A 47-year-old died on November 13, and a 50-year-old four days later. In the meantime, the investigations revealed, according to senior public prosecutor Birgit Jürgens, that the accused was said to have killed a 65-year-old with a drug on November 4th. One will probably “investigate for a long time” in order to rule out possible further cases of life-shortening medication, said Juergens. The senior doctor came to the clinic in February and had been working in the intensive care unit in question since July.

According to its own statements, the university clinic immediately informed the public prosecutor's office after an initial suspicion and released the doctor from duty.

He was arrested on November 18 and has been in custody ever since.

According to the public prosecutor's office, he has recently not commented on the allegations.
