Berlin (dpa) - Thousands of opponents of the corona policy are expected to vote on the amended Infection Protection Act in the Bundestag on Wednesday in Berlin's government district.

A total of 2,200 police officers were on duty, the Berlin police announced in the morning.

The Reichstag building was cordoned off across a large area.

Several demonstrations and rallies are planned.

The authorities have banned four meetings.

There are nationwide calls on the Internet to travel to the capital and demonstrate, a police spokeswoman said.

Emergency forces from Brandenburg, North Rhine-Westphalia, Bremen, Saxony and the Federal Police are to support the Berlin police.

The protests are directed against changes to the Infection Protection Act.

According to the police, a meeting at the Brandenburg Gate with 1000 registered participants and one on Straße des 17. Juni with 500 registered participants are planned from 10 a.m.

An afternoon demonstration with 1000 participants has also been announced, which is to start near Bellevue Palace.

There are also several planned smaller rallies.
