Zeitz (AP) - The Mitteldeutsche Braunkohlengesellschaft (Mibrag) wants to build a wind farm in the United Schleenhain opencast mine in the south of Leipzig.

The company announced on Tuesday in Zeitz that 17 wind turbines of the 6-megawatt class are planned.

The wind farm, with an annual electricity generation of around 230 gigawatt hours, is said to be supplying electricity from 2024.

The wind farm is to be built on a total area of 275 hectares on the inner dump of the United Schleenhain opencast mine, south of the new federal highway 176 between Neukieritzsch and Groitzsch.

According to its own statements, Mibrag is investing around 100 million euros in the project.

The Breunsdorf wind farm is part of the “Renewal of Mibrag im Revier” plan.

According to the plans of the mining company, it should become an important building block for the future direction of the company.

Mibrag, based in Zeitz (Saxony-Anhalt), operates the Profen (Saxony-Anhalt) and United Schleenhain (Saxony) opencast mines.

It supplies the two large power plants Schkopau and Lippendorf as well as thermal power plants and industrial companies in Chemnitz and Zeitz with coal.
