Lehrte (dpa / lni) - A deep fryer set a kitchen on fire in Lehrte.
The residents first brought themselves to safety on the balcony and were then rescued by turntable ladder together with two cats, as the fire brigade announced.
When the emergency services arrived on Sunday afternoon, the flames were already breaking out of the kitchen window of the apartment on the third floor - and threatening to spread to the roof above.
The police and emergency services had already organized the evacuation of the house before the fire brigade arrived: According to the fire brigade, all residents went outside in an exemplary manner, calmly and without panic.

The fire in the kitchen has been put out.
However, there was more work to be done for the fire brigade: due to a burst water pipe in the kitchen, the emergency services had to pour the water from the apartment into containers.
