Dresden (dpa / sn) - The ADFC cycling club sees a lack of progress in the expansion of cycle paths on state and federal roads in Saxony.

The slow pace is a security problem for the population, the ADFC said on Friday.

In 2020, 6.5 kilometers of new paths had been completed - less than the year before with almost 11 kilometers.

The cycling club asked for more money for cycling planners to speed up the construction process.

An average of 100 kilometers per year would have to be achieved if Saxony's Transport Minister Martin Dulig (SPD) wanted to achieve his goal of almost 500 kilometers of new cycle paths on state and federal highways by 2025.

According to the ADFC, 28 percent of the federal highways in Saxony currently have a cycle path.

The Free State is thus below the nationwide average of 40 percent.
