Stakeholders of the Iran nuclear agreement will discuss the prospect of the U.S. returning to the agreement

Xinhua News Agency, Brussels, April 1 (Reporter Chen Wenxian and Li Jizhi) The European Union issued a statement on the 1st that the parties involved in the comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue will hold a video conference on the 2nd to discuss the prospect that the United States may return to this agreement.

The statement said that the meeting will be chaired by Enrique Mora, Deputy Secretary-General of the European Union’s External Action Agency, on behalf of the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Borelli.

Representatives from China, France, Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom and Iran will attend the meeting.

Participants will discuss "the prospect of the United States' possible return to the Iran nuclear agreement and how to ensure that the parties fully and effectively implement the agreement."

US State Department spokesperson Price said at a regular press conference that day that the United States welcomes the EU hosting the meeting.

The United States has been proposing and discussing methods with its allies to realize that the United States and Iran can jointly resume compliance with the Iran nuclear agreement.

According to U.S. media reports, the U.S. government is preparing to put forward a new proposal in the near future to break the deadlock between the United States and Iran.

According to a report by Iran’s National Television, Iranian President Rouhani criticized the U.S. government for its delay in returning to the Iran nuclear agreement on the 1st.

Rouhani said that as Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei said, if the United States returns to the Iran nuclear agreement, Iran will also resume fulfilling its promises.

For the region and the world as a whole, "this will be a win-win deal", but the Americans did not understand this and failed to seize this "golden opportunity."

In July 2015, Iran reached a comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue with the United States, Britain, France, Russia, China and Germany.

According to the agreement, Iran promised to limit its nuclear program and the international community lifted sanctions against Iran.

In May 2018, the US government unilaterally withdrew from the Iran nuclear agreement, and subsequently restarted and added a series of sanctions against Iran.

Since May 2019, Iran has gradually suspended the implementation of certain provisions of the Iran nuclear agreement, but promised that the measures taken are "reversible."
