Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - In the first year of the corona pandemic, more than 5100 Covid 19 diseases were recognized as an occupational disease by the Baden-Württemberg Accident Insurance.

This is based on current statistics, as the cash register announced on Thursday.

A total of more than 5600 cases have been reported so far because the insured had been infected with the virus for professional reasons.

This means that 90 percent of all Covid 19 diseases reported to the health insurance company have been recognized.

As a spokeswoman said, these people were verifiably infected with the corona virus at work between the beginning of March 2020 and the end of February 2021.

According to the information, for example, employed teachers, educators or carers are insured with the accident insurance.

With a view to serious illnesses, total costs of around 1.6 million euros have so far been incurred.

Of the approximately 5100 Covid-19 patients who were verifiably infected in the professional environment, a little more than 5000 had a mild course with cold symptoms such as fever, runny nose or cough.

According to the statistics, the average length of incapacity for work for seriously ill people - that was 106 cases - in mostly inpatient treatment and subsequent rehabilitation is 134 days, as the accident insurance company also announced.
