Munich (dpa) - According to Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Lothar Matthäus has the potential to succeed Joachim Löw as national coach.
"Lothar is an absolute expert, and he has made a great development, especially the last five, six, seven years," said the CEO of FC Bayern Munich on Sunday on Sky TV during a broadcast for Matthäus' 60th birthday.

I think everyone trusts him to do that.

Rummenigge said he was not worried that Hansi Flick could succeed Joachim Löw in the office of national coach.
After a decade and a half, Löw ended his time as national coach in the summer after the European Championships.
Flick and Ralf Rangnick are considered promising candidates, the name Matthäus was also mentioned.

The question is what the DFB is up to, ”said Rummenigge.
Matthäus is not contractually bound as a coach.
This week Rummenigge described the DFB's plan as "serious and correct", "not to contact a coach who is contractually bound beyond June 30, 2021."

Flick is bound in Munich until June 30, 2023.
