Orlando Aravena was Chile's national coach for two years from 1987 to 1989. He was one of the key figures in the game that even got its own name: El Maracanazo.

He tried to force qualification for the World Cup with a brazen trick. He has now died at the age of 81, according to Chilean media. He is survived by his wife, two children and a son-in-law. The game was played at the legendary Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.
