Göttingen (dpa / lni) - A supermarket in downtown Göttingen caught fire on Friday evening.

The adjacent houses were evacuated due to the smoke gas, as the police announced on Saturday.

"The houses are currently not habitable," said a police spokesman in the morning.

No one was injured in the fire.

A total of 90 firefighters were on site to put out the fire.

According to the information, the extinguishing work lasted three and a half hours.

The streets around the shop were closed on Saturday morning.

The cause of fire was unclear for the moment.

The damage is estimated to be in the high six-digit range.
