The opera and concert singer Daniel Johansson is educated at the Stockholm Opera Academy and made his debut at the Royal Opera in 2011. Today he lives in Stockholm but performs all over the world.

Earlier this year he was awarded the royal medal Litteris et Artibus, now he is being praised for the second time in a time that has been very special for an opera singer.

Strange opera year

- It has been very strange.

I got corona myself this Easter and professionally most things have been canceled.

But we have done streamed concerts that many have actually watched, says Daniel Johansson.

The Royal Theater's Soloists Foundation awards the Jussi Björling scholarship to prominent singers and music profiles.

- In ten years, Daniel has graduated from the Opera Academy to be a world champion with the whole world as his workplace.

Despite all the success, he has his feet on the ground, says Gunnar Lundberg, chairman of the Royal Theater Soloists Foundation in a press release.

"Björling a great role model"

Daniel Johansson was named court singer 2018, an epithet he shares with Jussi Björling.

Another thing they share is the tenor meeting.

- Jussi Björling has been a great role model in so many ways.

Not least his incredible singing technique, says Daniel Johansson.

The scholarship will be awarded at a gala performance during the autumn.
