Stuttgart (dpa) - After months of investigations into the night of the Stuttgart riot, the police went public with mug shots on Monday in search of further fleeing rioters.

According to a police spokeswoman, one of the suspects wanted has already given himself up.

"He recognized himself in one of the photos," she said.

"He is accused of a serious breach of the peace."

Further details could not be released until later.

The investigators had also published photos of 16 other previously unidentified alleged perpetrators from the June night of last year on Monday.

There is a judicial order for every single suspect in the pictures.

First, the Südwestrundfunk (SWR) reported on the success of the search.

The broadcaster quoted the police spokeswoman as saying that there were very promising indications of several other suspects over the phone.

The mostly young men are among dozens of others who are said to have rioted in downtown Stuttgart after a drug control on late June 20, 2020.

Police officers were threatened, thrown at, kicked and injured, shop windows destroyed and shops looted.

The incidents made headlines and heated debates far beyond Stuttgart.

Video surveillance, alcohol and residence restrictions were discussed, and the first cameras were planned in central locations.

So far, a total of 130 suspects have been identified and dozens of judgments have been made.
