It was at 14.54 on Wednesday that the first telephone call was received, that several people had been attacked at Bangårdsgatan in central Vetlanda.

A quarter of an hour later, the police were on the scene.

By then, the perpetrator had managed to attack seven people, all men, with a knife.

By all accounts random.

The suspect, a 22-year-old man, was shot in the leg by police.

- It is a very serious and serious crime, says Deputy Regional Police Chief Carina Lennquist.

- We have been training in what we call ongoing lethal violence for many years now, and what we can see from the police officers' actions in Vetlanda the other day was that it was made exemplary, that they could quickly locate, neutralize and stop the violence.

The investigation work continues

The incident is classified as several cases of attempted murder.

A brief interrogation has been held with the 22-year-old, who is still in hospital.

- The perpetrator goes to custody today.

We are still in the initial stage and we get good help from the entire Swedish police in that, says Lennquist.

The motive was initially unclear and is still unknown.

The crime classification was changed at one point to a suspected terrorist act, which was then changed back to attempted murder.

- On the other hand, we do not release other connections.

We can not just say that a perpetrator has been arrested and now we have solved this.

- We have made very good initial investigative measures, with good evidence and technical investigation and such, but the investigation must continue.

The arrest hearing is set to take place at 10 o'clock on Friday.
