Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The Philologists Association Baden-Württemberg has criticized the opening step planned for March 15 for fifth and sixth graders as negligent.

It is foreseeable that because of the virus variations, the number of new infections to 100,000 inhabitants would rise again quickly in seven days, said state chairman Ralf Scholl on Thursday of the German press agency in Stuttgart.

"As long as we don't get that under control, we'll be bothered by it, and we're going into an even harder lockdown at Easter than we've had before."

The planned face-to-face classes in the lower grades from March 15 will mean that tens of thousands of schoolchildren will be on the road again.

From an educational point of view, it is important that these children are taught face-to-face again.

But that would be of no use if the incidences went through the roof again.

Scholl complained that no structures had yet been set up for the rapid tests for schoolchildren.

If students came into the school building, they would definitely have to be tested twice a week.

He also criticized the plan by Education Minister Susanne Eisenmann (CDU) to allow all fifth and sixth graders to return to school at once, even if the classes were divided.

"This is another new concept that is surprising the schools."

He was wondering how it should be possible that the teachers should teach in several rooms at the same time.

"The duty of supervision is then probably lifted," said Scholl.
