The opponent of Moden Fa Lumana Africa, Hama Amadou, was taken Monday evening, after just over 72 hours in police custody, to Filingué prison.

He himself went to the Niamey judicial police last Friday.

He is suspected of being behind the unrest that occurred last Tuesday, when the provisional results of the second round of the presidential election were announced, contested by the opposition.

Hama Amadou is facing a dozen charges, including racist propaganda, statements likely to pit citizens against each other, and complicity in demonstrations and destruction of property.

The opponent is suspected of being responsible

for the clashes that lasted

several days, following the proclamation of the provisional results of the presidential election.

One of his lawyers, Maitre Boubacar Mossi, denounces a "

justice of the victors

".

He claims that his client has never commented on the provisional election results, and that he is not legally responsible for the party to which he belongs.

For the presidential election, Hama Amadou supported the RDR-Tchanji candidate, since his own candidacy was invalidated by the Constitutional Court.

The coalition of support for

Mahamane Ousmane

called for the release of all those arrested and recalled that Hama Amadou was not a candidate for anything.

Several other people were placed under arrest warrant, including the retired General Moumouni Boureima, known as "Tchanga".

He was taken to Ouallam prison, about a hundred kilometers from the capital.
