Oberstdorf (dpa) - At first ski jumping pioneer Carina Vogt wrestled with tears, then she thought of fleeing.
“Maybe I'll run up some mountain and clear my head.
So that something can be put right again, ”said the completely frustrated 29-year-old.
Vogt is the most successful female ski jumper in the recent past with an Olympic victory and five world championship titles, but the triumphs of the past decade were at least as far away as the top ranks on Oberstdorf's Schattenberg.
After two hops at 81 and 70 meters, Vogt finished the first individual at the World Championships in 30th place, while gold winner Ema Klinec from Slovenia was missing an incredible 130.9 points.
That is more than 65 meters difference with just two normal hill jumps.
"The knee was definitely not the reason or the cause of this debacle," said Vogt in no uncertain terms.
She was "a bit speechless" and was definitely totally depressed.
"I think that was the hardest thing that ever happened to me today."

The rocky road after a cruciate ligament tear and other complications should lead directly to a successful World Cup.
Vogt worked meticulously and doggedly on a comeback, and she definitely didn't want to miss the title fights in her own country.
«Carina Vogt has high standards.
She wanted to tear the world down in eight weeks and jump right to the front again, ”said national coach Andreas Bauer.
Under the head coach, Vogt had become the first female ski jumping Olympic champion in Sochi in 2014, followed by other world championships in 2015, 2017 and 2019.
Even before Bauer announced the line-up for the team competition, Vogt announced in the mixed zone that it would not play a role in the competition.
«I don't offer myself like that, I'm not supportive when I show such jumps.
It would also be difficult for me to deal with the pressure situation, »said Vogt.
In the evening, Bauer confirmed this assessment, the young Luisa Görlich will be deployed instead of the experienced steward.

There is another individual on the large hill next week, for which Vogt first has to qualify internally.
