Halle (dpa / sa) - Saharan dust has caused fine dust levels in Saxony-Anhalt to rise sharply in many places.

The state office for environmental protection in Halle announced on Friday that the concentration at numerous measuring stations had risen above the daily limit of 50 micrograms per cubic meter of air from February 22nd to 25th.

A total of 30 exceedances were measured on these four days.

According to the information, the reason for this is on the one hand the Saharan dust that was carried by air currents from Morocco via Spain and southern France to Germany.

On the other hand, the weather has caused little exchange of air masses in the past few days.

According to the State Office for Environmental Protection, with the change in weather on Friday night, a decrease in the fine dust concentration was noted.

According to the Federal Environment Agency, the daily average of 50 micrograms per cubic meter of air per year must not be exceeded more than 35 times.
