Last year, after a ship chartered by a Japanese company ran off the coast of Mauritius, an island country in the Indian Ocean, and a large amount of heavy oil spilled, the government set up 600 million radars to monitor ships navigating the area. We have decided to contribute the yen free of charge.

In July of last year, a cargo ship chartered by MOL was stranded off the coast of Mauritius, causing a large amount of heavy oil to spill, which had a serious impact on the environment and fisheries.

Mauritius is located at a strategic point in the Indian Ocean, and the offshore area is the main artery of maritime traffic in the world. Therefore, the government will contribute 600 million yen free of charge to navigate the surrounding waters to prevent marine accidents. We will have them maintain the radar, systems, and network equipment that monitor the ship.

In addition, since the new coronavirus has had a serious impact on the tourism industry, which is a major industry in Mauritius, the government will also provide ODA = official development assistance with a ODA loan of up to 30 billion yen.

The government will continue to provide support for the restoration and revitalization of the Mauritius environment and fisheries.
