Bad Schmiedeberg (dpa / sa) - A 64-year-old driver died in an accident in Bad Schmiedeberg (Wittenberg district).

The police said that his car had left the straight road on Saturday afternoon for an initially unexplained cause, rolled over several times in a field and was left lying on the roof.

The "Mitteldeutsche Zeitung" had previously reported on it.

The man's 83-year-old passenger was critically injured in the accident.

Rescue workers took her to a hospital.

According to the police, it was still completely unclear on Saturday evening why the accident occurred.

A medical emergency while driving is also a possible cause, said a spokesman.
