Hanover (dpa / lni) - Lower Saxony's schools have received around 20 million euros for WLAN, business laptops and Co. from the digital school pact from the federal and state governments.

In a national comparison, the state is in the middle, as can be seen from the figures published by the Federal Ministry of Education and the Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the federal states on Friday.

The money is only paid out when the investment has been completed and the invoice is available.

The digital pact now comprises around seven billion euros.

Of this, 488 million euros have so far been called up and 875 million euros approved, making a total of almost 1.4 billion euros.

The digital pact was launched in 2019 with originally five billion euros from the federal government and 500 million euros from the federal states for the construction of the digital infrastructure in schools, for example for the installation of the school's own WLAN or for the purchase of digital boards, so-called smartboards.

Most recently, the program was topped up three times by 500 million euros each: to finance IT administrators for the schools, to purchase work laptops for teachers and to purchase equipment for students in need so that they can take part in distance learning during the Corona crisis enable.
