Düsseldorf (dpa) - A high demand from the pharmaceutical industry for glass ampoules and syringes gave the special packaging manufacturer Gerresheimer a tailwind at the end of 2020.

The production of ampoules for corona vaccines also helped to offset the fragrance industry's continued sluggish demand for flacons.

Also thanks to the growth in sales in the final quarter, sales in the past 2020 financial year (end of November) rose slightly to 1.4 billion euros.

On the basis of our own efforts, i.e. without the burden of currency and portfolio effects, growth was slightly higher at 2.6 percent.

Before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (Ebitda) as well as before special items, 21.9 percent of sales remained, in absolute terms, around 310 million euros.

This is more than a fifth less than in the previous year, but it was due to special effects in 2019. At that time, Gerresheimer had, among other things, booked a special income from a subsequent purchase price reduction for the takeover of Sensile Medical.

Sales and adjusted Ebitda were roughly on par with analysts' estimates.

Meanwhile, the Düsseldorf-based company is exceeding expectations for the dividend: it should rise to 1.25 euros after 1.20 euros in the previous year.

The group confirmed the outlook for the year 2021.
