The Montpellier administrative court on Monday suspended the orders of the RN mayor of Perpignan Louis Aliot, who had decided to reopen four municipal museums, against the health directives of the government.

Relying on the government decree of October 29, 2020 ordering the national closure of museums and cultural places, the judge suspended the execution of the orders made on February 8 by the mayor of Perpignan who cannot "proceed himself" to such an opening, said in a press release the court, seized in summary by the prefect of the Pyrénées-Orientales.

"We regret this decision which will further distance our fellow citizens hard hit by this health crisis", reacted Mr. Aliot on Twitter.

"Culture is an essential need which asks only to be expressed".

The mayor of Perpignan "disregarded the provisions" of article 45 of the decree of October 29, 2020 by authorizing the opening of the museum of coins and medals Joseph Puig, of the natural history museum, of the Hyacinthe Rigaud museum and of the museum of the Casa Pairal, the court ruled.

"The circumstances invoked by the municipality, drawn from the establishment of particularly strict health protocols, thus greatly reducing the risk of transmission of the virus in these establishments or of a favorable development in the health context, if they are likely to call into question the 'assessment made by the Prime Minister on the closure of this type of establishment, does not allow a mayor to proceed himself to this opening ", adds the court.
