The first round of the election could be held on March 24, 2024, in two and a half weeks. The date was announced this Wednesday evening, after several weeks of political crisis.

The Senegalese Constitutional Council estimated that the vote should be held before April 2, the end date of Macky Sall's mandate and not June 2. Prime Minister Amadou Ba released from office to campaign for the election, according to the presidency, and replaced by the Minister of the Interior, Sidiki Kaba.
