He had killed his grandmother by throwing her into the Lys in 2018. A man was sentenced on Wednesday to 20 years of criminal imprisonment by the North Assize Court in Douai, we learned, this Thursday, judicial source.

On the night of July 31 to August 1, 2018, he pushed his 84-year-old grandmother into the Lys canal in Armentières, while she was in a wheelchair.

She drowned.

Repeated arguments with his grandmother

He was sentenced to twenty years of criminal imprisonment, a socio-judicial follow-up of seven years with obligation of care in addictology and prohibition to hold or carry a weapon for five years for murder of an ascendant, indicated to AFP , the Assize Court.

The accused, who admitted the facts, explained that he had consumed alcohol, against the backdrop of repeated arguments with his grandmother.

Contacted by AFP, his lawyer, Me Julia Gadilhe, said that his client had not yet decided whether or not he was going to appeal this decision.
