Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - According to the police union (GdP), police officers in North Rhine-Westphalia are increasingly threatened at home by criminals and their surroundings.

Sometimes attempts are made to intimidate children or other family members, the GdP reported on Tuesday in Düsseldorf.

The union therefore called on North Rhine-Westphalia Interior Minister Herbert Reul (CDU) to better protect the private addresses of police officers.

Police officers should be able to obtain a ban on information from the registration office.

"That is the least, so as not to make it easier for the perpetrators," said GdP country chief Michael Mertens.

"In addition, all attempts to intimidate the police officers must be prosecuted by the officials' service authorities."

The union cited rocker, clan and organized crime as well as right and left extremism as examples.
