Cappeln (dpa / lni) - The driver of a truck was seriously injured on Tuesday in a slippery accident on the A1 motorway.

According to the police, the 54-year-old was traveling near Cappeln (Cloppenburg district) in the direction of Bremen when his vehicle skidded on a slippery winter road.

The tractor-trailer collided with the central plank.

The driver's cab was almost completely destroyed.

The injured driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Because the lane had to be cleaned of leaking diesel, the A1 northbound from the Vechta junction was completely closed for hours.

Snow and black ice also caused problems on other roads in Lower Saxony, such as the A2 and A7 motorways.

In Emsland and the county of Bentheim, the police have counted 90 missions since Monday.

Many vehicles got stuck in the snow or came off the road when it was slippery.
