Munich (dpa / lby) - In the dispute about the canceled carnival holidays, the Education and Science Union (GEW) called on Bavarian teachers to claim the work they have done as overtime.

The ministry, on the other hand, sees no “ordered overtime” - and therefore no reason for separate remuneration.

The holidays were canceled so that the learning delays due to distance teaching in the corona pandemic do not become too great.

The GEW state chairwoman Martina Borgendale argued on Tuesday: "According to the instructions, teachers now teach one week more than originally planned."

Upon request, the Ministry of Education and Culture said that it was of course aware that “one week of classes instead of the spring break is an additional burden for teachers”.

Legally, however, it is not about overtime.

In Bavaria, civil servants have 30 days of vacation per year.

They must take these within the non-teaching period and have them agreed and approved beforehand with their school management.
